Where to Plant your Trees

Trees are a blessing to have in the yard, if they are planted in the right location. Sadly most people would buy a tree and stick it anywhere they think is good for the time being. That is called poor planning, and planting. Trees are not flowers; they don’t die down to the roots and start all over in the spring. They keep on growing and growing, until one day the owner discovers that the tree is too big, and invasive for the location, and cuts it down.
Cutting down a large tree is costly, not to mention that you have spent money buying that tree. But if you plan ahead the tree will have a chance to live longer, and you would save yourself the trouble from having it cut down.
Well placed trees raise your property value because they provide a serine park like settings. They create an ambiance your next door neighbor will not have and also attract birds to your yard.
If you are thinking about planting trees, there are many factors you must consider before you start digging that hole. Here are some tips;
-Trees provide shade, and if you don’t want the tree to shade your vegetable garden, or your flower garden, then you must consider where the sun is going to be during the day in relation to your yard. If you don’t want shade, then choose a spot where the shade falls on the side yard, or the road.

-Do not plant a tree in the middle of your backyard; too many people do this mistake all the time. They say they want the shade for their patio! This decision renders most of the back yard useless for gardening. If you ever decided to install a pool, it would be hard with a tree in the middle of the yard.
-Do not plant your trees too close to the house, sometimes people regard trees as shrubs and place them close to the exterior wall of the house. As the tree gets bigger the roots invade the structure of the house and cause cracks in the foundation. Water will find its way into the house costing the owner thousands of dollars in repair. Not to mention that the tree will have to be removed. -Take into consideration the amount of space you would like the tree to occupy; envision it years down the road in that spot, think how tall and wide you would like it to be, and then choose a variety that will accommodate the space. |
There are different varieties of trees; some are narrow and tall like the English upright Oak, or wide and tall like the sugar maple. Different trees come in different shapes and sizes. Some produce beautiful flowers in the spring like the Horse chestnut,or the Ohio buckeye and some produce cones like the pine, or spruce trees. Some are deciduous which will lose all their leaves in the fall, and some are evergreen which will stay green all winter long.
If you have a large tree that is taking too much space in your front or back yard, consider pruning the bottom branches off. This will allow extra light to come into the area, and regain space otherwise taken by the bottom branches. If you keep the tree well pruned with a high canopy, the tree will almost seem to be invisible, but still provide the serine ambiance that everyone loves. |
