“Show me the way” by Styx, sang by Denis Deyoung is so obvious with its spiritual message. It describes the thoughts of many people. If we take a look at each verse we can see where most of us struggle with trying to make sense of what is going on in the world.
Every night I say a prayer in the hope that there's a heaven
And every day I'm more confused as the saints turn into sinners
All the heroes and legends I knew as a child have fallen to idols of clay
And I feel this empty place inside so afraid that I've lost my faith
No one has the proof of heaven’s existence, yet we all hope it is there and god could hear our prayers. We look around and all we see are people who we thought they were good, do bad things. But at some point we begin to question our childhood’s ideology and heaven’s existence because we don’t see a positive change. Desperation, and emptiness become evident, and we feel all alone left to struggle against the opposite of what we desire.

As I slowly drift to sleep, for a moment dreams are sacred
I close my eyes and know there's peace in a world so filled with hatred
That I wake up each morning and turn on the news to find we've so far to go
And I keep on hoping for a sign, so afraid that I just won't know
We slowly drift to sleep and temporarily live in a peaceful dream world of our own; while our reality is filled with hateful people. We wake up in the morning hoping to see positive change, but the news dash our hopes, and we come to the realization that a large number of people are still going the wrong direction. We eagerly look for an indication of hope that change is coming, while we fear that we may never find it in our life time.
